 ABOUT PAPER PANACHE

Welcome, Quiltmakers! Paper Panache is the home of unique paper-pieced blocks, borders, and quilt top patterns since 1997.

Paper piecing, also known as foundation piecing, allows you to achieve pictorial results similar to hand applique, but all sewing is done in straight lines on your sewing machine. We have more than 250 free and for-sale paper-pieced patterns available, and new patterns appear on a semi-regular basis.

If this is your first time at Paper Panache, check out all of the tabs and links to various parts of the site, especially the Pattern Collection. Paper Panache patterns may be a little more detailed, but they are not difficult. If you have paper-pieced before, you can do these, too. All purchased patterns are delivered as links to download patterns immediately after payment is made. A copy of the links are also sent to you in an email. Please see the Order Information page for more information.

Be sure to join our email list if you would like to get our occasional announcements about site updates and new pattern releases.

See you again soon!

FYI: In November 2021 I retired from posting new mystery blocks (here is the last, MB100). Most of the mysteries are now available for sale, and a small number are still in the Coming Gallery to be reformatted.

Rose in a Cruet by Linda S. Worland

The original rose that I designed in the '90s for a friend. The rose is paper pieced and the cruet is applique...I like to pair these techniques together in my personal projects.

ETA OCT 2022: I'm very sorry, but there is no pattern available for this small top.

 ABOUT LINDA

Linda began quilting in 1987 and her favorite techniques are pictorial paper piecing and applique. She "caught the bug" when she designed paper-pieced additions for 6 or 8 quilt tops in a  Round Robin challenge that her Quilt Guild staged in the 90s. She enjoyed the results so much that not long thereafter in August 1997 she started offering paper-pieced patterns in a subscription “Patternletter," and jumped onto the internet in November that year. A free paper-pieced mystery block was available on the very first day and new ones appeared four or five times a year for the 24 years following.

Linda's quilting claim to fame came way back in 1991-2, when she had a First Place win in the 1992 American Quilter's Society Show & Contest in Paducah under Theme: Windows. The same quilt took a Best in Show for Quilting, California Living, at the California State Fair in 1991. She managed a whole four or five large quilts in total and,  these days, 30 years later, she rarely finishes anything and still refuses to learn machine quilting (the best method for quilting all this paper piecing).
Most of Linda's patterns are pictorial and tend toward the whimsical, with occasional realistic subjects. The patterns generally have more sections and/or pieces but she is confident that you can do these patterns if you have paper pieced before. Not all patterns have borders, but her philosophy is that a pattern is just the beginning! Nothing tickles her more than when someone makes a pattern their own by adding, subtracting, changing and embellishing. Send in a photo when you're finished and she will post it on the Your Projects page!
